Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive kick-off event set
YOUNGSTOWN
National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 385 of Youngstown, will host a kick off at 11 a.m. Friday at Gleaners Food Bank, 94 Pyatt St., as a prelude to the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive planned Saturday.
On the second Saturday in May, letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns in America will collect non-perishable food donations left by personal mailboxes and in post offices. The food items will be delivered to local community food banks, pantries and shelters to be available to families in need.
Nearly 1,500 letter carrier branches in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Island are involved.
Supporting this year’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive are United States Postal Service, National Association of Letter Carriers, National Rural Letter Carriers Association, AFL-CIO, United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, United Way, Valassis and Valpak Direct Marking Systems.
In America, 49 million people face hunger daily including 16 million children.
