Three young men charged in Saturday armed robbery at house in Weathersfield Township

Three men were arraigned Monday in Niles Municipal Court on charges that they participated in an armed robbery on Anderson Morris Road in Weathersfield Township at 7:44 p.m. Saturday.

Marquis L. Gary, 18, of Glenwood Street Northeast in Warren, is accused of walking into a home, going to an upstairs bedroom and robbing four others of their cellphones and money.

A witness said Gary walked back out and got into a blue Chevy Cobalt. The victim, 23, followed the car, catching up to it at U.S. Route 422 and Niles Vienna Road, where he called 911, and then followed the car to the parking area behind Hometown Buffet at Eastwood Mall, where Niles police apprehended all three males in the car.

A Weathersfield officer spoke to James D. Spitler, 18, of Fulton Street in Niles, one of the other men in the Cobalt, and Spitler told the officer Gary asked him and the other male, Jacob A. Taylor, 18, of DeForest Road in Niles, to give him a ride to a house, where Gary intended to commit a robbery. Spitler told the officer he knew Gary had a gun.

Police found a gun that fires plastic pellets in a bag in the car.

Also in the bag was marijuana and $70 in cash, police said.

The victims were three males and a female age 16 to 23.

No plea was entered for Gary, who is charged with aggravated robbery, and bond was set at $15,000.

No plea was entered for Spitler or Taylor to complicity to aggravated robbery, and bond of $10,000 was set for both.

Gary was free on bond at the time of Friday’s incident, having been charged with a March 9 aggravated robbery in McDonald. That charge is pending with a Trumbull County grand jury, having just been bound over from Niles Municipal Court on Friday.
