YSU track teams crowned

Youngstown State’s track teams won Horizon League outdoor championships on Sunday.
The Penguins’ men’s team had another close battle against Milwaukee for the title as YSU won, 183-181. IT was YSU’s second outdoor title, the other coming in 2014.
The Penguins’ men also won the Horizon inddor championship.
The Penguins’ women’s team won its third straight outdoor title, breezing past Milwaukee, 196-167. It was the women’s team’s ninth outdoor title.
MEN
Strong performances by the YSU sprinters gave the Penguins a five-point lead entering the final event, the 4x400 meter relay. The final result came down to the last relay. Leighton Antonio overcame Valparaiso’s anchor in the closing stretch, pushing the Penguins into fourth place with a time of 3:20.75 and enough points to win.
Conner Neu won his third straight title in the hammer throw and set a new Horizon League meet record with a throw of 69.61 meters.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Chad Zallow (Warren JFK) placed second with a time of 14.82 seconds as Caleb Lloyd took sixth to clock a time of 15.26 seconds. Lloyd also finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.77 seconds.
In the 200-meter dash, Antonio came in second with a time of 21.46 seconds and Carl Zallow was behind him to take third to post a time of 21.64 seconds.
In the distance event, Ryan Sullivan came in fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:43.87.
The 4x100 relay consisting of Antonio, Carl Zallow, Marcellus Embry and Lasander Washington placed second with a time of 41.10 seconds just behind Milwaukee.
The men’s individual award winners were Arnaldo Morales who was named Field Outstanding Performer, Neu was awarded the Alfreeda Goff Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and Coach Brian Gorby was named Coach of the Year.
WOMEN
Winning titles were Nina Grambling who won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes and Amber Eles who won the 100-meter hurdles.
Grambling won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.85 seconds. This is Grambling’s fourth consecutive title, which makes her the first Horizon League runner to win four titles in the race. In the 200-meter dash, Grambling won her third straight title in the event by clocking a time of 24.55 seconds.
Eles won her first outdoor title in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.66 seconds. In the 100-meter dash, Taylor Thompkins took second with a time of 11.92 seconds and she also took fourth in the 200-meter dash clocking a time of 24.96 seconds.
Keishawnna Burts placed third in the 200-meter dash posting a time of 24.92 seconds and also took seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.28 seconds.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Jennifer Shiley finished second with a time of 1:00.31 and Taylor McDonald was right behind her to place third with a time of 1:01.65.
In the field events, Chontel Fils took second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.25 meters. In the hammer throw, Jaynee Corbett placed second with a toss of 47.40 meters.
Fils was named Field Freshman of the Year, Grambling was awarded the Running Outstanding Performer and Corbett was honored as the Individual Scoring Champion.
