Two Liberty officers injured while making arrest
LIBERTY
Two police officers reported injuries after responding to a domestic violence call Saturday morning.
Officers arrived at an Adrian Circle home shortly before 5 a.m. and reported that Jeffrey Chinchic, 50, of Girard was acting erratically and appeared very intoxicated.
A 50-year-old woman told police she feared for her safety after Chinchic yelled profanities and smashed objects throughout the home.
Police concluded Chinchic needed evaluation, but when police asked him to leave the home with officers, he became belligerent, according to a police report.
The report states Chinchic punched an officer in the face and slammed officers into a wall, breaking a lamp, when they tried to subdue him. Police handcuffed Chinchic after an officer used a stun weapon on him. Chinchic was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center before being booked into the Trumbull County jail on a $7,500 bond.
One officer reported injuries to his knee and elbow, but did not require medical attention. Another officer was hospitalized for a fractured cheekbone, cuts near his mouth, bruised arms and lacerations.
Chinchic was arraigned in Girard Municpal Court on charges of felonious assault, assault on a police officer, domestic violence and resisting arrest. His case is set for a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
