YOUNGSTOWN
A scholarship breakfast, organized by Mahoning County Educational Service Center, recognizing 22 seniors in Mahoning County, took place April 29. The seniors are recipients of the J.L. Francis Scholarship, First Place Community Fund, a component fund of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.
Scholarships were $500 each.
Students met grade point average requirements and demonstrated a commitment to each of their schools and communities through volunteer service and involvement during their high school years.
The J.L. Francis Scholarship was established by First Place Bank and the First Place Community Foundation in the 2005-2006 school year after the death of Jeffrey Francis, who died of ALS in 2005. He served as the chief operating officer of First Place Bank and executive vice president and chief operating officer of the First Place Financial Corp. His hard work and dedication inspired the creation of this scholarship in his memory.
Community Foundation of Mahoning Valley enhances the quality of life for future generations by managing donor assets, distributing grants and advancing philanthropy and good works.
