Embattled Niles treasurer Swauger resigns
NILES
Embattled part-time Niles Treasurer Robert Swauger has submitted a letter of resignation after a lengthy period of state auditor scrutiny for not reconciling certain city accounts.
The city is under the supervision of the state auditor's office due to its financial crisis.
This was posted Monday on Councilman Ryan McNaughton's Facebook page:
"Good evening. I want to let the citizens of Niles know that Treasurer Swauger resigned today, citing the increasing need to focus on his full-time professional position. I want to thank Mr. Swauger for his service to the city, and members of Council and the Administration. While this makes an uphill financial battle even tougher to fight we have gotten used to having left hook after right cross come our way. We will continue to fight together to turn things around."
