Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh and his assistant coaches are hosting a football camp on June 9 at Warren Harding High School.

Syracuse stabbing suspect indicted

SYRACUSE, N.Y.

A former Syracuse University football player has been indicted on first-degree assault charges in connection with the stabbings of two former teammates.

The indictment handed down Thursday against 20-year-old Naesean Howard also includes charges of second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Howard is accused of attacking defensive backs Chauncey Scissum and Corey Winfield at a barbecue in mid-April on the university’s south campus.

Police say Scissum was critically injured with wounds to his neck, chest, left shoulder and bottom lip. Winfield was stabbed in the lower back, chest, abdomen and left wrist. Both are recovering.

Teenager Byron wins Truck race at Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Kan.

Eighteen-year-old William Byron raced to his first Trucks Series victory Friday night when Ben Rhodes got into race leader Johnny Sauter and spun both of them on the final lap at Kansas Speedway.

Byron had built a nearly 5-second lead before Tyler Reddick spun with four laps to go, bunching the field up for a green-white-checkered finish. Byron got shuffled to third behind Sauter and Rhodes on the restart, but he was ready to pounce when the two ahead of him got together in Turn 4.

Matt Crafton rallied after his own spin and wound up second. Daniel Hemric was third and Christopher Bell — Byron’s teammate with Kyle Busch Motorsports — finished fourth. Clint Bowyer rounded out the top five in his first Truck Series race in two years.

Benn, Holtby and Kane up for Lindsay Award

TORONTO

Dallas forward Jamie Benn, Washington goalie Braden Holtby and Chicago forward Patrick Kane are the finalists for the Ted Lindsay Award as the NHL’s most outstanding player.

The award is the only NHL honor determined by the players themselves. They voted at end of the regular season and the top three were designated as finalists Friday. The winner will be announced June 22 during the NHL Awards in Las Vegas.

Benn had a career-high 41 goals and 89 points in 82 games.

Holtby matched Martin Brodeur’s NHL season victory record, going 48-9-7 with three shutouts. He had a 2.20 GAA and .922 save percentage.

Kane led the NHL with 106 points and had 46 goals in 82 games.

MLB cancels Pirates’ Puerto Rico series

NEW YORK

Baseball has scrapped a series in Puerto Rico between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins amid concerns over the Zika virus. Major League Baseball and the players’ union made the announcement Friday.

The two games scheduled for San Juan on May 30-31 will instead be played in Miami.

Soccer player dies after collapsing in game

BUCHAREST, Romania

Dinamo Bucharest player Patrick Ekeng died after he collapsed during a match in the Romanian capital on Friday, doctors said. He was 26.

Cristian Pandrea, a spokesman for the Floreasca Emeregency Hospital, said doctors tried for an hour to resuscitate the Cameroon midfielder but failed.

The home match between Dinamo and Viitorul Constanta was at 3-3 and being broadcast live when midfielder Ekeng fell to the ground in the 69th minute, seven minutes after he went on as a substitute. Local media said he had a heart attack.

Ekeng was immediately taken to the hospital, where dozens of fans gathered outside.
