GIRARD
The Girard High School FIRST Robotics Team, also known as the Girard RoboCats, won the Curie Division Championship at the World Championships in St. Louis, Mo.
After winning at the division level, the RoboCats moved on to the World Championship stage in April, where the students competed in front of approximately 50,000 people.
Girard has qualified for the world championships seven of the past 17 years.
The team brought home the Engineering Inspiration Award at the Midwest Regional in Chicago.
The team also earned second-place finalist medals at the Buckeye Regional at Cleveland’s Wolstein Center.
The Engineering Inspiration Award, the second-highest award given in FIRST Robotics, celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team’s school and community.
The RoboCats are recruiting members for next year’s team. The initial meeting will take place May 19. Team camp is scheduled for June 6-14.
