YOUNGSTOWN

CTNY, the Catholic Television Network of Youngstown, received the 22nd Annual Communicator Award for its June 20, 2015, production of “Ordination to the Priesthood” at St. Columba Cathedral.

The Communication Award is the leading international creative awards program honoring creative excellence for communication professionals.

For more than two decades, the Communicator Awards have recognized the best in marketing and communications. From traditional methods to the latest digital trends, the Communicator Awards is the premier platform to showcase one’s talent and prove that they belong among the leaders in the industry.

The prestigious award is hand-made and customized by the craftsman at RS Owens, the same firm that produces the Oscar and the Emmy Awards.

This is the seventh Communicator Award for CTNY.

Taylor in concert

SALEM

Dr. Calvin Taylor, who has been in traveling music ministry for more than 30 years, will be featured at the 10:30 a.m. service May 15 at First Presbyterian Church, 436 E. Second St.

He will present a piano concert at 4 p.m. that day.

He has degrees in music from Oberlin Conservatory, University of Michigan and the University of Kentucky.

Taylor has authored music books including “Spirituals for the Piano,” “Sacred Classics,” “The Patriotic Piano” and “Five Spirituals for Organ.”

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

There is no charge for admission.

A free-will offering will be accepted.

Hymn festival

HUBBARD

Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir will host “Sing His Praise! A Hymn Festival” at 3 p.m. May 15 at First Presbyterian Church, 22 Westview Ave.

The 55-voice choir will perform old-time hymn favorites and Gospel and contemporary selections including medleys for audience participation.

Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir is an outreach of Hubbard First Presbyterian’s music ministry.

A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the Hubbard Food Bank.

All are invited to a reception in the church hall after the performance.

Blessing of bikes

HUBBARD

The second annual blessing of the bikes is set for May 15 at First Baptist Church of Hubbard, 59 Orchard Ave.

The day will start with a special worship service of celebration and music. The Rev. Luke Oskin will present the sermon message at the 10:15 a.m. service. Immediately after the worship service, all riders are welcome to receive a personal blessing and to share any special prayer needs with Pastor Oskin and members of the diaconate.

A free picnic of hot dogs and popcorn will cap off the celebration. Parking for bikes will be across the street from the church at the board of education office lot. Security for unattended motorcycles during worship will be provided. Each rider will receive a gift that day.

The mission focus will be the collection of disposable diapers to be distributed to Hubbard families who have a need.

A special offering for this mission outreach will also be taken that day.

Rain date is May 22.
