The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federations sponsored its 23rd annual Holocaust writing contest. Winners and those earning honorable mention were recognized during Thursday’s community Holocaust commemoration at Mahoning County Courthouse. Suzy Schwebel Epstein, president of Ohio Council on Holocaust and Genocide Education, said this contest is open to eighth- through 12th-graders in schools in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties and the Shenango Valley.

Seventh and eighth grades: Sydney Ortenzio, winner, Austintown Middle School; Annika McCabe, Akiva Academy; Ella Mitchell, Canfield Village Middle School; and Kathryn Summerfield and Raymond Murray, both of Howland Middle School, all honorable mention.

Ninth and 10th grades: Siena Larrick, winner, Boardman High School; and Kameron Griggs and Emma Palmer, both of Beaver Local High School, both honorable mention.

Eleventh and 12th grades: Katelyn Snyder, winner, and Cassie Robbins, honorable mention, both of Boardman High.
