Arsenio Hall sues Sinead O’Connor for libel over Prince post

LOS ANGELES

Arsenio Hall is suing Sinead O’Connor over a Facebook post in which the singer accused him of furnishing Prince with drugs.

The comedian’s libel lawsuit filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court calls O’Connor’s accusations fabricated lies. The lawsuit states O’Connor, who scored a hit in 1990 with her rendition of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” barely knew the superstar and despised him.

O’Connor wrote a Face-book post Monday that stated investigators looking into the supplier of drugs used by Prince should question Hall. She also accused him of drugging her.

The lawsuit seeks more than $5 million in damages, but any award would be decided by a jury. The case first was reported by celebrity website TMZ.

5 inducted into Blues Hall of Fame

MEMPHIS, Tenn.

Elvin Bishop, Eddy Clearwater, Jimmy Johnson, John Mayall and the Memphis Jug Band have been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in Memphis, Tenn.

The five new inductees were honored Wednesday by the Blues Foundation.

British blues artist Mayall and Eric Clapton formed the Bluesbreakers, which also would include Mick Taylor, Peter Green and John McVie. Bishop was a founding member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and had a hit song in 1976 with “Fooled Around and Fell in Love.”

From the Chicago music scene, left-handed guitarist Clearwater earned the nickname “The Chief” for wearing an Indian headdress, while Johnson, a blues singer and guitarist, wrote “Don’t Answer the Door,” a hit for B.B. King.

The Memphis Jug Band was an African-American pre-war jug band.
