LGBT events

Pride Youngstown Pageant: Set for 6 p.m. today in Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University. Admission is free. This event is open to YSU students and the public. Parking is $5 for non-YSU students. Pageants are a long-standing tradition in the LGBT community and are based on those such as Ms. America and Ms. Universe. Contestants compete in evening-wear and performance segments for the title and the opportunity to represent Pride Youngstown for the year. Competitors will be vying for the crown of Miss Pride Youngstown and Mr. Pride Youngstown. The 2016 Pride Youngstown Pageant is a co-production of Pride Youngstown, YSUnity and YSU. Pride Youngstown is dedicated to a world free of discrimination and hate. The Pride Youngstown Festival will take place July 16 in downtown Youngstown featuring performances, vendors and concessions.

Mahoning Valley Pride Center: The 501 (c)(3) charitable organization will host a movie night at 7 p.m. May 14 at First Unitarian-Universalist Church, 1105 Elm St. The film “Eyes Wide Open” is in Hebrew. It focuses on an Orthodox Jewish butcher in Jerusalem who is married and a father of four but falls in love with his 22-year-old male apprentice.
