Hilltop Elementary School hosted its annual Career Day with a bit of a twist on April 22. The school changed it up a bit with a Vehicle Career Day in the front parking lot, with volunteer Hilltop parents and local safety services providing their vehicles.

The vehicles were set up for the students to be able to get an up-close look and have an interactive experience while also learning about the vehicle, the career associated with it, and the relationship of the vehicle to the career.

Ten vehicle stations were set up, including Canfield Police car and DEA undercover vehicles, Cardinal Joint Fire District fire truck, Mahoning Valley Crisis Response Team SWAT truck, All-Spec Heating and Cooling, John Deere tractor, Westford trolley, City of Canfield snow plow, front loader, Kubota excavator and Chevy Volt electric car.

Each grade level had a chance to visit the vehicles while rotating every five minutes to ensure each student was able to visit each station. Sara Michaliszyn served as chair of Career Day and Hilltop PTO volunteers were also on hand to help.

“We wanted to try something a little different with Career Day this year, to make it a little more exciting and new for the kids. We really appreciate all our Vehicle Career Day volunteers here today. They are so generous to donate their time,” said Julie Miller, Hilltop PTO president.
