U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, announced Thursday the certification petition for Trade Adjustment Assistance for Warren companies MSSL Wiring System, Inc. and Adecco Staffing.
The Trade Adjustment Assistance Program is a federal program that assists workers who have lost their jobs as a result of foreign trade. The program provides trade-affected workers with opportunities to obtain the skills, resources and support they need to become re-employed.

Airport wins funds for snow equipment
VIENNA
On Thursday, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, announced the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Vienna will receive $791,700 to acquire snow-removal equipment.
This project will fund the acquisition of a replacement dedicated rotary blower and broom equipment to keep the airport serviceable during snow periods and aid in the efficiency and safety of operations. It also will fund a pavement study to develop a plan for maintaining the airfield pavement in a safe and serviceable condition.

Scrapyard to open
NEW CASTLE, Pa.
The new Ben Weitsman of New Castle facility, a state-of-the-art shredder and retail scrap-metal recycling center, has announced it will open at 8 a.m. Saturday.
The New Castle scrapyard, formerly Ferrotech, was acquired by Weitsman at a bankruptcy auction; the facility has seen tens of millions of dollars’ worth of investment. About 30 employees were hired to start, and more will be hired soon.
The hours of operation for the new yard, at 526 South Jefferson St., are 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
Allegiant traffic up
LAS VEGAS
Allegiant Travel Co. released its April 2016 traffic reports Thursday.
The company, which is the only commercial airliner in operation at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, reported an 11.8 percent year-over-year increase in the number of passengers from April 2015 to April 2016 for its scheduled service.
Departures increased 12.8 percent.
Beginning with one aircraft and one route in 1999, the company has grown to more than 80 aircraft and more than 300 routes across the country.
