Boys track compete in Second Sole Elite Meet

The Boardman boys track team competed at the Second Sole Elite Meet at GlenOak High School in Canton, finishing tenth overall as a team. The meet featured some of the best athletes and teams in Ohio and Michigan.

Highlighting the meet for the Spartans was senior Brendon Lucas, setting a new meet and stadium record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.55 seconds. Lucas is currently ranked in the top five in Ohio for Division I athletes in that event and is .35 seconds from breaking the BHS record in the event set by Dayne Hammond in 2012. Senior Jason Jama also had a big day by placing third overall in the shot put with a throw of 51 feet 10 inches and followed that with a first place finish in the Dunkin Donuts 100, where he received a bag of doughnuts for his victory.

The 4x400 relay team of junior Kobe Adu-Poku, senior Nathan Hadley, Lucas and sophomore Ethan Himes placed sixth in a time of 3:30 and Hadley was second overall in the 1600 at 4:27. Other Spartans finishing in the top 10 were junior Chris Butler, ninth in the 1600 at 4:36; the 4x200 relay team of Lucas, Himes, freshman Manny Perez and sophomore Justice Jama, ninth at 1:32; the 4x800 relay team of Butler, Adu-Poku, senior Tyler Kellam and junior Nathaniel Ams, 10th at 8:31; junior George Wallace, ninth in the discus at 130 feet 5 inches, and Justice Jama, ninth in the high jump at 6 feet.

“This was a great chance for us to see some top notch competition and have some fun at the same time,” said Spartan Head Coach John Phillips. “GlenOak did a great job running the meet and it was a good day for our team.”
