Rockies 2, Padres 0

SAN DIEGO

Tyler Chatwood pitched three-hit ball for eight innings to lead the Colorado Rockies over San Diego, the Padres’ eighth shutout loss in 28 games this season. Making his sixth start since Tommy John surgery, Chatwood (4-2) struck out seven and walked one. Jake McGee pitched perfect ninth for his seventh save in eight chances, helping the Rockies win for just the seventh time in their last 27 games at Petco Park and avoid a three-game sweep.

Mets 8, Braves 0

NEW YORK

Steven Matz allowed two hits over 72/3 innings in his latest stellar start, Lucas Duda hit two of the Mets’ four home runs, and New York won six straight series for the first time in almost a decade with a rout of the lowly Atlanta Braves. Matz (4-1) has a 0.67 ERA over his last four outings, allowing no runs in three of them. With his defense making several sharp plays behind him on a cold, drizzly afternoon, the 24-year-old lefty struck out eight and walked none to close out the three-game series.

Reds 7, Giants 4

CINCINNATI

Brandon Phillips, Eugenio Suarez and Zack Cozart homered in a five-run first inning, and the Cincinnati Reds beat Jake Peavy for the first time in a win over the San Francisco Giants. Adam Duvall added a solo shot for the Reds, and Dan Straily (1-1) overcame solo homers by Brandon Belt and Conor Gillaspie for his first major league win since April 10, 2014, with Oakland.

Angels 7, Brewers 3

MILWAUKEE

Mike Trout had an RBI triple and sparked a four-run eighth inning with a solo homer, and the Los Angeles Angels avoided a three-game sweep by beating the Milwaukee Brewers. Trout tied the game at 3 after leading off the eighth with a drive to right on a hanging curveball from Tyler Thornburg (2-1). Five batters later, pinch-hitter C.J. Cron drove in the go-ahead run after looping a two-out double.

Nationals 13, Royals 2

KANSAS CITY, MO.

Daniel Murphy finished a triple shy of the cycle, slumping slugger Bryce Harper also went deep and the Washington Nationals routed the floundering Kansas City Royals. Murphy and Clint Robinson drove in three runs apiece, and just about everyone else in a gray jersey did something at the plate to help the Nationals post one of their best offensive performances in years.

Mariners 9, Athletics 8

OAKLAND, CALIF.

Dae-Ho Lee hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh after an earlier solo shot for his first career multi-homer game, and the Seattle Mariners rallied for a back-and-forth win over the Oakland Athletics and their first 2016 series sweep. Mike Montgomery (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings for the win on a day Nelson Cruz also homered, a rare shot into the second deck of seats in dead-center.

Blue Jays 4, Rangers 3

TORONTO

Russell Martin singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays beat Texas, their second straight last at-bat victory over the Rangers. Edwin Encarnacion singled off Tony Barnette (1-2) to begin the ninth and was replaced by pinch-runner Ezequiel Carrera. Justin Smoak walked, Troy Tulowitzki popped up and Kevin Pillar walked to load the bases for Martin, who drove a ball beyond the reach of Nomar Mazara into the right field corner.

Marlins 4, Diamondbacks 3

MIAMI

Giancarlo Stanton homered and drove in two runs for the Miami Marlins who held on for a victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Jose Fernandez (3-2) allowed three runs in five innings while striking out seven for the Marlins, who have won nine of 10. Marcell Ozuna and Christian Yelich drove in runs for Miami.

Yankees 7, Orioles 0

BALTIMORE

CC Sabathia pitched seven sharp innings, Brian McCann drove in three runs and the New York Yankees ended their six-game losing streak by beating the Baltimore Orioles. Playing in his 1,000th major league game, Jacoby Ellsbury went 3 for 3 with two walks to help the Yankees improve to 9-16 and avoid their worst skid since April 2007.

Rays 8, Dodgers 5

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.

Steve Pearce hit one of four Tampa Bay homers, a go-ahead three-run shot in the sixth inning, and the Rays beat the Los Angeles Dodgers. Brandon Guyer, Steven Souza Jr. and Curt Casali added solo home runs for the Rays, who went 4-4 on an eight-game homestand. Pearce chased Alex Wood (1-3) with his third homer this season to put Tampa Bay ahead 5-2. Pearce has all three over a 17 at-bat span. Guyer homered in the first.

Red Sox 5, White Sox 2

CHICAGO

David Ortiz hit his 509th home run to put the Boston Red Sox ahead to stay in a victory over the Chicago White Sox. Ortiz’s two-run shot to right field off Carlos Rodon in the fifth inning tied him with Gary Sheffield for 25th all-time. It was his sixth homer of the season and 451st with Boston, one off Carl Yastrzemski’s club mark.

Cardinals 5, Phillies 4

ST. LOUIS

Matt Holliday’s RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the St. Louis Cardinals a victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. The Cardinals had lost five of their last six games while the Phillies had won seven of eight and 10 of 12. St. Louis loaded the bases with one out in the ninth inning against Phillies closer Jeanmar Gomez.

Astros 16, Twins 4

HOUSTON

Jason Castro homered and drove in four runs, and Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa both homered and knocked in three as the Houston Astros won consecutive games for the first time this season with a victory over the Minnesota Twins. The Astros built a 6-0 lead after two innings and didn’t let up in setting a season high for runs.
