YSU student dies
YOUNGSTOWN
YSU student Eric Stone died Tuesday night after collapsing while playing basketball in the university’s Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
Stone was a junior majoring in electrical engineering. He is a Calcutta native who was living in Newton Falls.
In a statement issued just after 10:30 p.m., university spokesman Ron Cole said Stone was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Cole said Stone was a resident of Youngstown State’s Weller House, had a 4.0 grade-point average and was president of the YSU chapter of the IEEE, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
The thoughts and prayers of the entire YSU community are with Eric’s loving family and friends, Cole said in the statement.
He added that student counseling is available at University Counseling Services, and counseling assistance for employees also is available.

Convicted at trial
WARREN
David R. Honzu, 58, of Bonnie Brae Avenue Northeast, will get up to 18 months in prison May 24 after being convicted at trial Tuesday of attempted abduction of a Champion Township jogger.
A jury in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Found Honzu guilty of charges that he demanded that the woman, 50, “come here” in a loud voice while running after her on Airport Road May 17, 2015. The woman took off running, screaming “help me,” and made it to a house to get help, she told police. Honzu got back into his truck and left.
Honzu was convicted of rape in 1995 and spent 11 years in prison and also was convicted of menacing by stalking in 2010 and was sentenced to one year in prison.
