Ryan, others to pressure Portman to confirm Supreme Court nominee

YOUNGSTOWN — U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th; former U.S. Attorney Steve Dettelbach; and Austintown Trustee Kenneth Carano will be in front of the Mahoning County Courthouse at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to call on U.S. Sen. Rob Portman and other Republican senators to hold confirmation hearings on Judge Merrick Garland for the U.S. Supreme Court.

Portman and other Republicans have refused to hold hearings saying the Supreme Court vacancy should be filled by the next elected president and not Barack Obama, who’s in his last year of office.
