Police say a man arrested after a chase that took more than 30 minutes Tuesday morning was driving at speeds up to 80 miles per hour.
Marvin Reese, 24, no address listed, is in the Mahoning County jail on charges of domestic violence, failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, plus several traffic charges and several warrants. He is expected to be arraigned in municipal court today.
Reports said police were called to a home in the 1200 block of Dogwood Lane about 7:25 a.m. by a woman who told them Reese, the father of three of her four daughters, punched her in the face and kicked her in the stomach. The woman is pregnant with another child by Reese, reports said.
Reports said the woman had no visible marks on her and refused to be taken to a hospital to be examined.
As police were leaving they spotted a van Reese was known to drive go past the victim’s home and continued south on Cedar Lane. Reports said the van ignored a stop sign and collided with another car hard enough that one of the drivers was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to be examined.
Reports said Reese refused to stop and led officers on a chase that at one point had police from all over the city involved in trying to catch him. At times officers would lose sight of Reese but never for more than a minute.
In the 2000 block of Warwick Avenue Reese lost control of the van and it smashed into a tree, reports said. Reese ran from the van but was caught and handcuffed. He said he was not injured in the crash and refused medical treatment, reports said.
