New bistro features Mexican, Italian food, opens in Canfield

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will have a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony for Maria’s Mexican-Italian Bistro, 4010 Boardman-Canfield Road, at noon Thursday.

Maria’s Mexican-Italian Bistro plans to create a fusion of Mexican and Italian cuisine in one location. The bistro’s Italian cook and Mexican cook have nearly 50 years of experience between them, and together they create an extensive menu of Mexican and Italian favorites.

Pa. control board posts slot revenue

HARRISBURG

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board on Tuesday posted its monthly report for total gross revenue and tax revenue generated from the play of slot machines at casinos during April.

Gross revenue from slot machines at 12 casinos rose 1.5 percent in April of this year to $208,999,688 compared with the $205,894,827 of gross revenue in April 2015. Tax revenue in April of this year was $111,555,793.

Labeling issue causes Giant Eagle to recall 2 kinds of cookies

PITTSBURGH

The Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle supermarket chain is recalling Walnut Delight and Pecan Tassie cookies because labels wrongly omitted milk as an ingredient. That could cause problems for people with milk allergies.

Giant Eagle is recalling all cookie packages with “sell-by” dates through Tuesday. The chain wants customers to throw away the cookies or return them for a refund.

Giant Eagle has 175 corporate and 54 independently owned and operated supermarkets, plus 178 GetGo! fuel and convenience stores in western Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio and West Virginia.

VW replaces exec

FRANKFURT, GERMANY

Volkswagen’s Porsche division has replaced a top vehicle-development manager suspended since the start of the Volkswagen group’s scandal over diesel cars rigged to cheat on emissions tests.

Porsche said in a news release that Wolfgang Hatz, 57, would be replaced by Michael Steiner, 51.
