Boardman man charged with abuse of a corpse

Police on Tuesday charged Philip Bergman, 45, of Lemont Drive with abuse of a corpse and failure to report the death of Jacquelin Bergman. She and her son shared the residence.

When Jacquelin’s neighbor, a 69-year-old woman, said she hadn’t seen her in a few weeks, she felt concerned for her safety and contacted the police.

Philip was in the Mahoning County jail with no bond set while the investigation continues.

The woman had been dead for about two days, said Boardman Police Chief Jack Nichols. The chief said the Mahoning County coroner and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation were called to aid in the investigation.
