Facing rape charge

NILES– David J. Schmitt, 18, of Watson-Marshal Road in McDonald, was arraigned Monday in Niles Municipal Court on a rape charge. No plea was entered, and bond of $100,000 was set. He returns for a preliminary hearing May 11.

McDonald police said the offense occurred April 24 and involved a girl, 11. Schmitt was arrested on the charge Friday and taken to the Trumbull County Jail. McDonald police were notified by the McDonald school district Friday of the allegation.
