Boardman cops make arrest on OVI and improper firearm-handling charges

Township officers arrested a Canfield man on charges of operating a vehicle while under the influence and improper handling of a firearm.

A patrol car traveling down Market Street at 1:47 a.m. on Tuesday saw a white Chevrolet SUV straddling the lines dividing the curb and passing lanes.

The officer pulled the driver over at the entrance of the Southern Park Mall, identified as Peter Ceci, 42, from Camden Way in Canfield. The officer smelled alcohol coming from the vehicle and noticed Ceci, with watery and glassy eyes, turning away from them when speaking, a report states.

When running his registration, the officer discovered Ceci had a valid concealed weapons permit. When asked if he had the weapon in his car, Ceci replied he'd left it at home.

Police then administered a field-sobriety test which Ceci failed, and a breath-test which showed a blood alcohol Level of 0.138. The state legal limit is 0.08.

Upon searching his car after placing Ceci in handcuffs, they found a handgun in the center console.

Police also charged Ceci with a lanes of travel violation. Ceci posted bond and awaits arraignment at the Mahoning County Court at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
