Man hospitalized after getting shot in the hand

YOUNGSTOWN — Police said a man ran into a South Side home about 4:40 p.m. Sunday after someone shot him in the hand.

Police were called to the first block of West Lucius Avenue, where a man whose pants were covered in blood told police that someone he only knows as “Chip” tried to rob him and shot him in the hand before he ran inside the home.

The homeowner told police she was cooking dinner when she heard someone run inside. She found the man in an upstairs room pleading with her to not let the man shoot him. The victim told police he broke windows in two rooms trying to jump out the window and run away.

Police found a shell casing near the home. The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to be treated for his wound.
