Man arraigned for Sunday fatal Girard shooting
GIRARD — Branden D. Cagley, 30, of Lucretia Drive in Liberty was arraigned this morning in Girard Municipal Court on one count of murder in the Sunday afternoon shooting death of his step-grandfather, James W. Phillips, 81, of the same Lucretia address.
Bond was at $250,000, and he will return for a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
A person identifying himself as Cagley called 911 at about the time others called about the 3:49 p.m. shooting. The man said he shot his grandfather in the chest to protect his grandmother.
Phillips’ wife, Dorothy Phillips, 80, also called and said Cagley had shot her husband because he was going to beat her.
