Injured in crash
NESHANNOCK, PA.
A New Wilmington, Pa., man, Douglas Kaufman, 47, of McGary Road, was injured when he lost control of his vehicle traveling west on Maitland Lane just entering Neshannock from Hickory Township, went onto the west berm where he hit several small trees and brush, came back across both lanes of the road and struck a tree just off the east berm.
The crash occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Neshannock police reported that Kaufman was found unresponsive lying across the front of his vehicle and was treated for unknown injuries by Neshannock Fire Department and Noga EMS personnel. He was initially transported to Jameson Hospital in New Castle, and subsequently transferred to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Officials said the crash is under investigation.
Spring Sharefest

Time Bank Mahoning Watershed will sponsor a Spring Sharefest event from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave.
The event will include trading events, including a book and seed and plant swap sponsored by Jubilee Gardens; take books and seeds or plants to trade. There will be a potluck lunch and recipe swap; participants will share a dish and its recipe, and will be entered into a drawing to win a $20 Giant Eagle gift card sponsored by Commonwealth Giant Eagle in Liberty. There will a small appliance and computer software repair cafe by TMW representatives Ken Webber and Robert O’Daffer. TMW’s Hazel Nicholas will teach guests to use extra plastic shopping bags to create plastic yarn and she will demonstrate how to make a woven rug or tote. Kyrene Rodriguez and Arian O’Daffer of TMW will also man a recreation station, where guests are urged to bring old belongings to make new. Litter grant

Mahoning County Solid Waste District has been awarded a $12,880 grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for litter prevention and cleanup and scrap tire disposal.
The grant is part of a total of $561,707 OEPA is providing to 42 local governments and agencies statewide.
The Mahoning County grant supports the annual tire collection drive, at which small numbers of tires are accepted from the public for disposal free of charge. This year’s collection will be in mid-summer at Canfield Fairgrounds.
The exact date and time of the collection will be announced soon, said Mary Gresh, the county recycling division’s operations coordinator.
Books sale for school
BOARDMAN
To fund a makeover of Boardman Center Middle School on Market Street, project leaders will host a used book sale at the school from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday in the gym.
Children’s, young adult and adult selections will be available. Hardbacks will be sold for 50 cents; paperbacks will go for 25 cents.
The planned makeover of the school – led by students, staff, administrators and community members – is slated to take place this summer. The makeover will include new paint on hallways, doorways, lockers and common areas; sprucing up each classroom; new art displays; a green space; and a community wall featuring a tribute to Boardman history.
The project is being funded entirely through donations and fundraisers such as the book sale.

Housing laws
WARREN
Community Legal Aid will host a free housing presentation from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the YWCA, 210 High St. NW. Housing attorney Patricia Dougan will discuss landlord’s responsibilities and tenant’s rights under the Fair Housing Act. The presentation will also cover the process of filing an inaccessibility complaint for tenants who are elderly or disabled.

Painting class
MERCER, PA.
Munnell Run Farm, 753 Greenville Road, will welcome guest artisan Lauren Sheridan to teach a painting class from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 9.
Sheridan has a bachelor’s degree in art education and a master’s degree in education, and will teach participants to paint a 12- by-16-inch canvas with a river sunset. No art experience is required and all materials will be provided. Guests are welcome to bring their own paintbrushes.
