SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR | Second-grade students in Tricia Morgan’s class at St. Patrick School in Hubbard participated in the annual bicycle safety program hosted by the Hubbard Optimist Club. Hubbard City police officer Marcus Coonce and Hubbard Township police chief Todd Coonce also assisted in the program. It focused on the importance of the rules of the road for bicyclists, and the students learned how to use hand signals and to ride in areas without sidewalks. The students finished the course by taking a pledge to obey all safety rules while riding their bikes. Each student was given a new helmet, and told that if Hubbard City or Township officers see them following the rules as they ride their bikes, they will award the students with an ice cream coupon for the Hubbard Dairy Queen. Program participants included, from the front row left, Nicholas Markulin, Lia Fiorini, Sara Lindholm, Ashley Lewis, Isabel Rodriguez, Rihannia Easterly, Aubrey Munnell, and Morgan. Those who volunteered to administer the program included Officer Coonce, back left, Chaplin Luke Oskin, Steve Pipic, Ray Wright, Tom Kilar and Chief Coonce. Nathan Kamraj also participated.
