Mahoning County Grand Jury indicts 29


YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County grand jury Thursday indicted 29 people including Robin Briggs, 28, East Judson Avenue, on counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, possession of cocaine and possession of drugs with a forfeiture specification.

Reports said a car Briggs was driving around 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 2 was pulled over at a gas station in the 1700 block of Logan Avenue for running a stop sign. Briggs told CPU officers Melvin Johnson and Shakir Perkins and vice squad officer Mike Quinn that he had no driver’s license, and when asked if he had anything illegal, gave them a bottle of pills.

Police also found a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol and a bag of crack cocaine.

The grand jury also indicted Shun Moreland, 43, Idora Avenue, superseding indictment, on four counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of cocaine with a forfeiture specification and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Jan. 13, Police found a loaded .40-caliber handgun was in the freezer and the other three – an M16 assault rifle, a .45-caliber assault rifle and a 9 mm handgun – were found in closets. Also, police said they found a bag of .45-caliber ammunition and two bags of suspected crack cocaine.

The grand jury also indicted Tramaine Wright, 19, Emerey Avenue, on counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying concealed weapons, possession of cocaine, possession of heroin and resisting arrest.

On Feb. 21, Officers Mark Sember, Anthony Trimble and Joe Burnich were called about 4:05 p.m. to a home in the 400 block of Emery Avenue for a report of a domestic dispute and when they arrived they found Wright on the front porch, reports said. Wright told the officers he was waiting for a ride and a woman inside is the mother of his child.

Reports said two of the officers stayed with Wright while a third went inside to speak to the woman, who told them Wright choked her and threatened to kill her.
