BIRD BANDING

When: April 3, 8 a.m. to noon.

What: See live, wild songbirds in the hand and learn why bird banding is an important tool for bird and wildlife conservation.

Where: Meet Al outside on the east side of the Visitors Center, Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center Visitors Center, 16146 Daniel St. NE, Minerva.

Details: Drop in any time between 8 a.m. and noon. Banding sessions are canceled in the event of rain.

EXPLORERS

When: 10 to 11:30 a.m. April 7.

What: The Explorers will head out on the trail in search of signs of spring in the forest.

Where: Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center Visitors Center, 16146 Daniel St. NE, Minerva

Cost: Free

Details: For ages 7-11. Dress for spring weather and trail conditions. Program will be canceled in the event of inclement weather. Bring your own hammer; all other materials will be provided. Registration limited, required and closes April 6.

NATURE IMPRESSIONS IN CLAY

When: April 9, 2 to 4 p.m.

What: Workshop participants will explore rolling out slabs of clay, texturing them, then building a small birdhouse.

Where: Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center Visitors Center, 16146 Daniel St. NE., Minerva.

Cost: $5 material fee required

What: Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society sale.

SPRING WILDFLOWERS

When: April 10, 2 to 4 p.m.

What: Join the Nature Center’s Naturalist Emeritus Patty Rickard for an exploration of spring wildflowers.

Where: Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center Visitors Center, 16146 Daniel St. NE, Minerva.

Cost: Free

Details: Blooms vary depending on weather, but hepatica, coltsfoot and spring beauty will likely be in bloom. Dress appropriately for spring weather and trail conditions. Cameras encouraged. No registration required.

Fruit Tree Pruning Clinic

When: April 23, 1 to 4 p.m.

What: White House Fruit Farm, Canfield, will host OSU Extension for a demonstration of pruning new fruit trees. Participants will walk through the orchard to see larger trees first hand. Learn to prune brambles through a demonstration, then learn about blueberries in the field.

Cost: $20

Details: Includes a pair of pruners.
