Bedbug discovery cancels preschool in West Branch

West Branch School officials found a bedbug in a preschool classroom Monday and canceled preschool for this afternoon.

Interim Superintendent Scott Weingart said preschoolers don’t come to school Friday so there was no need to cancel preschool for that day.

The area will be cleaned and professionally sanitized before the preschool reopens Monday, he said.

The preschool is isolated in the back wing of West Branch Middle School, but Friday middle school classes are scheduled.

Bedbugs aren’t life-threatening and don’t carry diseases, Weingart said. Alliance High School closed earlier this month after four of the bugs were found there.
