Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley is relocating the main entrance of its Beeghly campus at 6505 Market St. as part of the hospital’s expansion of Building A, which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2017.

Effective at 9 a.m. Thursday, the new entrance will be located about 80 yards south of the current entrance, which will be permanently closed, and directly across Market Street from Marlindale Avenue.

Akron Children’s broke ground for the $18.6 million, 51,000-square-foot Beeghly campus expansion Oct. 7, 2015.

This project represents the first of a four-phase project that will span the next several years.

The expansion includes construction of a new building and renovation of portions of the current “A” building, and will create a new entrance for the Beeghly campus that will improve how families access the services on the campus.

Overall, it will add 49 exam rooms, including subspecialty and primary care.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Bill Considine, president and chief executive officer of Akron Children’s, said, “We were building on a firm foundation of quality pediatric care when we acquired the Beeghly campus.”

Sharon Hrina, vice president of Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, said the “goals of this expansion are to improve access for families, increase our primary-care capacity, relocate specialty services from the Boardman Medical Pavilion to the Beeghly campus, build our capacity for growth and consolidate our clinics.”
