Youngstown State sophomore outfield Cali Mikovich has been named the Horizon League Softball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

This is the first weekly award of Mikovich’s career and marks the second time a Youngstown State softball player has garnered the league’s player-of-the-week award. Junior Sarah Dowd won the award on Feb. 15.

Last week, Mikovich, a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, led the Penguins to a 6-1 week and batted. 400 with 10 runs, a triple, five home runs and 11 RBIs. She also finished with a 1.080 slugging percentage and a .444 on-base percentage.

Mikovich became the first player in school history to hit two grand slams in a single season after blasting her second of the year against St. Bonaventure on March 23.

Mikovich had three multi-hit games and at least one hit in final six games of the week and had a home run in five straight games.

She also had a 3-for-5 performance against St. Bonaventure and went 4-for-9 with two home runs and three RBIs in the series against Valparaiso.

Mikovich leads the Horizon League with seven home runs, 27 runs batted in and 57 total bases, tied for the lead with 22 runs scored, ranks third with a .722 slugging percentage, tied for sixth with 29 hits, and ninth with a .367 batting average.
