Teen to be arraigned

campbell

A Campbell teen will be arraigned today in Campbell Municipal Court after police said he tried to set a house on fire while his ex-girlfriend was trapped inside.

Mathue O’Malley, 18, faces felony charges of aggravated arson and obstructing official business.

Police responded about 3:30 p.m. Saturday to a Tremble Avenue home. A family member told police O’Malley had recently broken up with his girlfriend and was threatening to kill himself along with everyone present. Additionally, the family member said he believed the ex-girlfriend was in danger because O’Malley was refusing to let her leave the home.

Police reported that O’Malley threatened to release his pit bull at officers. O’Malley then attempted several times to set the home’s porch on fire, before succeeding in starting a small fire, according to police. Firefighters were called and doused the flames. O’Malley is being held without bond in the Mahoning County jail until his arraignment.
