BASEBALL

Newton Falls 5, Hubbard 3

HUBBARD

Alan Boone’s two hits included a two-run triple that drove in the winning run in the sixth inning. He also scored twice. Noah Suarez also had two hits and two RBIs for the Tigers. Winning pitcher David Hukari scored twice. He came on in relief in the fourth inning. For Hubbard, Brett Lopuchovsky’s two hits included a two-run triple. Ryan Love had three hits and drove in the Eagles’ other run. Colin Shinosky took loss and Ryan Halavick had two hits.

Struthers 16, Girard 3

STRUTHERS

Struthers used an 11-run third inning to key its rout of Girard. The Wildcats (2-1) pounded out 16 hits, led by Stephen Mistovich’s three. John Medvec also notched a single, triple and three RBIs, Trent Stocker went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs and Pat Carano went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Mason Morell pitched 41/3 innings to get the win for Struthers, striking out four along the way.

Lisbon 10, Salem 0

SALEM

Cameron Summers and Noah Barnes each had two hits for Lisbon. Marcus Nenichka also had three RBIs for the Blue Devils, who took advantage of five Salem errors. Barnes went all seven innings, allowing just four hits and a walk in notching a complete-game shutout.

SOFTBALL

Canfield 6, Springside Chestnut Hill 3

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

Kayla Troxil was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals (1-0), allowing three runs and three hits over five innings against the Philadelphia school. She struck out four and walked four. Bridget Durkin pitched two innings of scoreless relief. Savannah Maass had one of Canfield’s hits.
