‘get flocked’ Fundraiser for food pantry

Who: First Federated Church, 10786 Mahoning Ave., North Jackson.

What: “Get Flocked” fundraiser. The winner will wake up to a yard full of dozens of hot-pink plastic flamingos.

When: Friday, April Fools’ Day.

Cost: Amy Sudimak, charities board member, said that for $1 a ticket buyer can suggest a name to be “flocked.” If you don’t want a yard full of pink plastic, flamingo insurance is available for $5 to make sure they migrate elsewhere.

To benefit: Proceeds will benefit the church food pantry, which feeds more than 2,000 people a year. This year, funds are earmarked for a new freezer to store food, including meat.

Food pantry: Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard operates from 10 a.m. to noon the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, except for November and December when dates are adjusted for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Dates for the rest of the year are April 9 and 23, May 14 and 28, June 11 and 25, July 9 and 23, Aug. 13 and 27, Sept. 10 and 24, Oct. 8 and 22, Nov. 12 and 19 and Dec. 10 and 17. The pantry, which buys its food from Second Harvest Food Bank, follows household eligibility guidelines for income and number of family members.
