Officers: Man wounded in shooting with Myrtle Beach police

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — State police are investigating the shooting of a man who Myrtle Beach officers say threatened them with a gun.

Police Lt. Joey Crosby tells local media outlets that someone called them at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday to report a man acting strangely.

Officers found a man with a gun in his hand, and a police negotiator was called in. Crosby says the man threatened police with the gun, and they shot him.

The man was taken to the hospital. Neither his name nor his condition was released. Officers Jeff Thomas, Brendan Hyde and Michael Hearon have been placed on administrative duty, as is standard in such cases.

The State Law Enforcement Division says the officers were wearing body cameras. The races of the officers and suspect were not immediately available.
