Girard 10, McDonald 0

GIRARD

Troy Trumbetta scattered four hits and struck out two over five innings as the Indians blanked the visiting Blue Devils in the season opener. David Blackmon singled and drove in four runs for Girard, Austin Caussell singled, doubled in two runs and scored twice while Aidan Warga singled twice and had two RBIs. Joe Sudol had two hits and Calvin Wolford added a double for McDonald.

West Branch 6-4, Jefferson 4-10

BELOIT

A three-run burst in the sixth inning allowed West Branch to take the first game. Jefferson’s bats came alive in the second contest. In the opener, the Warriors’ Hunter Steel was the only multi-hit player with two and a run scored. Collecting the RBIs were Seth Schroeder and Connor Hedrick with one each. Jon Snyder earned the win with three earned runs, nine hits, a walk and three strikeouts in seven innings. Jefferson committed five errors in defeat. In game two, the tables were turned as West Branch had six errors. Only four of Jefferson’s 10 runs were earned. Sam Chaney had the top bat for the Falcons by going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Brandon Reinke amd Tyler Maylish added two RBIs each. Colton Wilber was 2-for-4 at the plate and on the mound, he got the win giving up two earned runs on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts.

SOFTBALL

West Branch 18-5, Northwest 1-0

CANAL FULTON

West Branch out-hit Northwest 30-2 during the two-game sweep to start the season. The Warriors mercy-ruled the Indians in five innings in game one. Starter Bailey Byers struck out nine batters while giving up a hit and two walks while getting the win. At the plate, Byers went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Maddie Pidgeon and Grace Heath each collected two RBIs and a double. Dani Lough also smacked in two runs. In game two, Bailey Byers caught for Kelsey Byers as the latter struck out 11 while conceding a hit and a walk. Bailey Byers hit a solo home run and Lough hit an RBI-double. Delany Roth and Kyle Coffett each collected two hits.
