Accused of assault

AUSTINTOWN

A man was arrested, accused of assaulting his girlfriend after his game system suddenly shut off.

According to the police report, the man got agitated about his game shutting off Wednesday night and blamed the victim. She was struck on the side of her face, then told her daughter to call police to their Collins Avenue home.

Officers charged Christopher Giles, 40, with domestic violence. He has a court date at 1 p.m. Monday in Mahoning County Area Court.

Arson destroys home

YOUNGSTOWN

Fire reports said arson was the cause of a fire about 3 a.m. Friday that destroyed a vacant 317 Garfield Ave. home. Crews who were first on the scene found a fire on the second floor, but even though firefighters managed to put that blaze out, they could not stop it from spreading to the attic and could not reach those flames because the steps were burned out, reports said. Damage is listed at $6,200.

Falsification charge

AUSTINTOWN

Township police arrested a man for giving an officer the wrong name during a traffic stop. During a traffic stop Wednesday morning, an officer said he noticed the car’s owner had a suspended license for a drug violation.

According to a police report, Clyde Douglas, 42, of Market Street, Youngstown, is charged with falsification after providing the officer with two separate, incorrect identifications. Douglas also was cited for driving with a suspended license.

Cited in rollover

HUBBARD

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says alcohol was a factor in a rollover accident Thursday at U.S. Route 62 near Interstate 80 in Hubbard Township.

Troopers on Friday cited truck driver Adam Plaxco, 36, of Warren, Mich., on charges of driving under the influence and failure to control a vehicle.

Plaxco was leaving Truck World truck stop when the tractor-trailer he was driving hit a utility pole, the patrol said.

Ohio Edison crews worked throughout the day to repair the utility pole, the patrol said. All ramps at the U.S. Route 62 and I-80 interchange, which had been closed, reopened Friday afternoon.

Probing dog deaths

WARREN

Investigators are trying to determine who is dumping dead dogs in a vacant lot along Eighth Street in Warren Township.

The area long has been a problem for trash dumping, but the remains of several dead dogs were found at the site March 16 and reported to the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office.

“There were about four or five dogs with collars still on, and two puppies that were deceased just laying in the wooded area here,” county sheriff Detective Jolene Marcello said.

Authorities also found trash bags that contained animal skulls and other bones, indicating this was not just a recent activity, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Because the dogs have collars, they did belong to someone, but how they died is still in question.
