POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

March 17

Arrest: Theodore A. Thomas, 46, was taken into custody at his Trumbull Avenue residence. The Youngstown man was wanted on warrants, including one from Girard Municipal Court.

Identity fraud: A Lawrence Avenue man found out someone without authorization had opened a credit-card account four years ago in his name after he received a notice from a collection agency.

Menacing: An Elruth Court woman said she received secondhand information that a family member had made an implied threat against her.

March 18

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 400 block of Iowa Avenue was found with a broken window, a nearby dent and scratches on both sides. The damage estimate was $1,000.

Theft: An East Kline Street woman alleged her boyfriend took her bank card and used it on several occasions to withdraw a total of $266.

March 19

Harassment: A Girard girl and her father told police she had found on her iPhone two inappropriate photographs, along with comments that were sexual in nature.

March 20

Trespassing: An officer on routine patrol in the 200 block of Forsythe Avenue noticed a vehicle’s door was ajar and, upon further investigation, saw that the contents from the glove compartment were strewn about.

Theft: An East Kline Street man reported $100 missing from his car.

March 21

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a trailer on a piece of property in the 1100 block of South State Street. Several boxes were disturbed, though it was undetermined if anything had been stolen.

Harassment: An East Kline Street man told officers two people have been harassing his teenage daughters via Facebook, and that the two drove past their residence.

March 22

Criminal mischief: A Stambaugh Street man noticed his car’s driver’s-side mirror was broken. Damage came to $250.

Identity fraud: A Krehl Avenue man learned that someone without permission had changed his account’s email address and tried to make two electronic transfers totaling $800.

March 23

Arrest: A traffic stop in the 200 block of Hazel Avenue led to the arrest of 39-year-old Jenny E. Dove of Hazel, Girard, on a Howland Township warrant.

LIBERTY

March 18

Arrest: A traffic stop near Interstate 80 and Belmont Avenue resulted in the arrest of 27-year-old Tonya J. Minteer of Scott Lane, Girard, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired. Minteer’s blood-alcohol count was 0.123, which exceeds Ohio’s 0.08 legal limit, a report showed.

Bad check: A Logan Gate Road man told police a Niles man had written him a $300 check that was returned for insufficient funds.

Citation: Officers cited Richard S. Emery, 26, of Crumlin Avenue, Girard, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired after having stopped his car on Belmont Avenue.

Theft: A Marlane Drive woman reported her 9-year-old son’s $300 iPod device missing from her vehicle.

Menacing: A Keefer Road woman said another woman had made a threatening call to her.

Arrest: Police arrested 46-year-old Theodore A. Thomas of Trumbull Avenue, Youngstown, on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

Bad check: A Boardman woman reportedly wrote a check to buy about $143 worth of merchandise at Ohio Liquidation, a furniture business at 3100 Belmont Ave., before the check was returned from a closed account.

March 19

Arrest: A traffic stop near Trumbull Avenue led to the arrest of 18-year-old Alexander T. Carnathan of Trumbull, Youngstown, who was wanted on a township warrant charging domestic violence.

Arrests: Police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue picked up Malcolm A. Carter of Alameda Avenue and Mister Jackson of Drummond Avenue. The two 30-year-old Youngstown men were accused of failing to appear in court.

Animal complaint: Police issued a minor-misdemeanor citation to 32-year-old Timothy J. Morgan of Millicent Avenue, Hubbard, after a neighbor complained that a large dog was on his property barking at the accuser’s dogs. Morgan’s dog was not considered dangerous but was roaming the neighbor’s property, a report stated.

Burglary: To a residence in the 4500 block of East Drive after pry marks were found on a rear door. A jar was out of place, though it appeared nothing was missing.

Theft: A Twinsburg woman alleged her boyfriend, of Youngstown, stole her purse and smartphone as she dropped him off in the 3800 block of Belmont Avenue.

March 20

Arrest: Ryan C. Barber of Middle Drive, Youngstown, was taken into custody at the Mahoning County jail. The 38-year-old Barber was wanted on a township warrant.

Burglary: Jason T. Strutt, 22, of Evans Street, Niles, faced charges of burglary and obstructing official business after someone had broken into a James Lane residence via the front door. Strutt also provided a false name and date of birth, a report showed.

Theft: Someone in a silver vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet Cobalt, reportedly got out and grabbed a woman’s purse from her hand from behind as she placed groceries in her car at a Goldie Road big-box store.

Theft: An employee for a Goldie Road business discovered a hooded sweatshirt and other items missing while at work.

Citation: While responding to a report of a suspicious car in the 900 block of Ravine Drive, police cited 40-year-old Edward J. Murray of Crandall Avenue, Youngstown, on a charge operating a vehicle impaired.

March 21

Arrest: Tashala M. Chatman of Roxbury Avenue, Youngstown, was picked up at the Mahoning County jail. Chatman, 21, was wanted on a township warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court on a theft charge.

Drugs: Authorities near Colonial Drive pulled over and charged 53-year-old Carmen A. Moran of Penhale Avenue, Campbell, with one felony count of possession of crack cocaine after alleging having found a bag with a white substance that was consistent with the drug.

Arrest: Dawayne Jones, 23, of East Montrose Street, Liberty, was taken into custody after having been pulled over near Goleta and Trumbull avenues. He was wanted on a township warrant charging failure to appear in court.

March 22

Arrest: A traffic stop in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue resulted in the arrest of Byron L. Gashler of Murray Hill Avenue, Youngstown. The 60-year-old Gashler was wanted on a felony Mahoning County warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Theft by deception: Officers charged 37-year-old Angela Cambert of Shadyside Drive, Boardman, with one felony count of theft by deception after an employee with Days Inn, 1615 E. Liberty St., alleged Cambert, pretending to be looking for a restroom, later admitted having removed an undisclosed sum of money from a register at the motel’s front desk.

March 23

Arrest: Youngstown police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue handed 24-year-old Johnathan B. Jordan to township authorities. Jordan, of Monticello Boulevard, Liberty, was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

HUBBARD

March 17

Arrest: Conrado Martinez-Munoz of West Park Avenue, Hubbard, was arrested after police learned that the 66-year-old man was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

Identity fraud: A Harker Heights, Texas, woman caring for her mother, of Lincoln Avenue, told police she learned that her residence had been broken into and that someone wrote a $4,500 check that was endorsed to another person.

Possible theft: A man said he never received a United Parcel Service package that was to have been delivered to his Westview Avenue home.

Theft: A Hubbard man reported someone claiming to be a neighbor picked up his prescription at a West Liberty Street pharmacy without his consent.

March 18

Arrests: Police in the 300 block of North Main Street pulled over and charged 42-year-old Robbin R. Cross and 50-year-old William A. Moore, both of Wilson Avenue, Campbell, with obstructing official business after alleging they refused several times to cooperate with officers.

Theft of services: A man without authorization reportedly placed seven bags of garbage into a trash bin that belongs to Circle K, 211 W. Liberty St.

Arrest: Joseph W. Shipton, 38, was taken into custody at his South Main Street residence. The Hubbard man was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.

March 19

Drugs: A traffic stop in the 400 block of Myron Street led to the discovery in the car of a suspected marijuana pipe and a pill bottle with suspected marijuana residue. No charges had been filed at the time of the report, however.

Harassment: A North Main Street man said his former wife’s boyfriend sent him a text message stating he had firearms and wanted to fight the accuser.

Citation: Police issued a minor-misdemeanor citation charging 41-year-old Timothy T. Lawson of Larry Lane, Cortland, with improper outside storage of junk after an officer reported finding 20 bags of garbage, three old tires, clothing on the driveway and other junk on the piece of property Lawson owns in the 300 block of Wheeler Avenue.

March 20

Arrest: Daniel W. Skruck, 32, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after police had pulled him over in the 200 block of West Liberty Street. Skruck, of Parish Avenue, Hubbard, had a 0.140 blood-alcohol count, a report said.
