Pleads not guilty

YOUNGSTOWN

Former boxing champion Kelly Pavlik, 33, of Sugarbrush Drive in Canfield, entered a written plea of not guilty Tuesday and waived his arraignment in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on a charge of felonious assault.

Pavlik was indicted March 17 by a grand jury. The charge stemmed from an attack on a man in August with a pellet gun as the man was trying to dig a lake at Pavlik’s home.

Investigators said the attack was captured on cellphone video and texted to the victim.

The case was assigned to Judge John Durkin with a pretrial date set for Tuesday and a trial date of April 18. Pavlik is free on $25,000 bond.

17th citation

YOUNGSTOWN

A Liberty man who picked up his 17th citation Tuesday for driving under suspension also had a stolen handgun in his car, reports said.

Andre Williams, 22, is in the Mahoning County jail on charges of driving under suspension and receiving stolen property after police pulled him over at about 3:30 p.m. at Belmont and Catalina avenues on the North Side for having a suspended license.

Reports said Williams has a concealed-carry permit, but a records check showed the loaded .40-caliber handgun he had was reported stolen in Campbell.

Williams told police he bought the gun three weeks ago for $300 from his brother, and he did not know it was stolen. Reports also noted there were several hidden compartments inside the car Williams was driving.

Police pulled Warren over at about 6:50 p.m. in the 300 block of East Judson Avenue on the South Side. Reports said officers found the pills when Warren got out of his car. Nine of the pills are oxycodone pills, reports said.
