What: Jamie Kirkell’s large silk paintings bring a fun and fresh perspective to the study of both the orchid and the iris. Jamie accurately depicts the complete flower, leaf and stem. His work seamlessly integrates classical and modern influences.

Botanical Mornings

BIRD BANDING WITH AL EIBEL
When: April 3, 8 a.m. to noon.
What: See live, wild songbirds in the hand and learn why bird banding is an important tool for bird and wildlife conservation.
Where: Meet Al outside on the east side of the Visitors Center, Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center Visitors Center, 16146 Daniel St. NE, Minerva.
Details: Drop in any time between 8 a.m. and noon. Banding sessions are canceled in the event of rain.

ACOUSTIC JAM
When: April 3, 2 to 4 p.m.
What: Join us at the Nature Center for a music jam. Bring an instrument or just come to listen. Beginners are welcome. Make new friends, have fun and learn a new tune or two.

EXPLORERS
When: 10 to 11:30 a.m. April 7.
What: The Explorers will head out on the trail in search of signs of spring in the forest. Participants should be dressed for spring weather and trail conditions. Program will be canceled in the event of inclement weather.

Details: Bring your own hammer; all other materials will be provided. Participants must be age 7 to 11. Registration is limited, required and closes April 6.

NATURE IMPRESSIONS IN CLAY
When: April 9, 2 to 4 p.m.
What: Clay is one of earth’s most amazing materials. While it is soft, it can be modeled into many forms, and it can be impressed with objects (seeds, sticks, leaves, etc.) to create beautiful designs and textures. When it is fired, it becomes hard and durable. Workshop participants will explore rolling out slabs of clay, texturing them, then building a small birdhouse.
