Driver of pickup truck in Feb. 24 Brookfield accident dies

YOUNGSTOWN

The driver of a truck that was hit from the side on state Route 82 in Brookfield Township Feb. 24 has died.

Wayne R. Ayers, 56, of West Middlesex, Pa., died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth’s Select Specialty Care from complications of injuries he sustained in the crash, his obituary says.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Ayers was westbound on Route 82 in a semi tractor-trailer when a box truck pulled out from Warner Road, failing to yield the right of way and striking Ayers’ truck and causing the accident.

The driver of the box truck, Robert Arms, 38, of Tarentum, Pa.; and his passenger, Michael George, 41, also of Tarentum; also were seriously injured and taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Ayers, who attended Niles McKinley High School, was born in Warren, the son of Dennis David Ayers and Wilma Florence Johnson.

He served in the Army, where he was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., and was a tractor trailer truck driver for Pitt-Ohio on its local routes.

He enjoyed operating and collecting remote control cars, drones and ham radios and appreciated the outdoors, hiking and spending time at camp along the Clarion River.

He was married to Nancy Elaine Marenchin, whom he married Sept. 14, 2002. He had two daughters, two grandsons, a sister and six brothers, most from Niles and Warren.

Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 1090 E. State St., in Sharon, Pa.
