Liberty man faces charges after stolen handgun found in car

YOUNGSTOWN — A Liberty man is in the Mahoning County jail after reports said he had a stolen handgun in his car Tuesday.

Andre Williams, 22, is in the Mahoning County jail on charges of driving under suspension and receiving stolen property after he was pulled over about 3:30 p.m. at Belmont and Catalina avenues for having a suspended license.

Reports said Williams has a concealed carry permit but a records check showed the loaded .40-caliber handgun he had was reported stolen out of Campbell.

Williams told police he bought the gun three weeks ago for $300 from his brother and he did not know it was stolen.

Reports also noted there were several hidden compartments inside the car Williams was driving.
