HUBBARD

City council authorized the board of control to advertise for bids for upgrades to the municipal building’s heating and air-conditioning units.

The upgrades will be more energy-efficient and save the city money, Councilman Ben Kyle, D-1st, said at a previous meeting.

Additionally, council authorized the board of control to advertise for bids for a waterline extension project at Clingan Street.

In other business, council honored Richard Pasco, a senior at Hubbard High School. Pasco has been recognized as one of Ohio’s “distinguished finalists” for a Spirit of Community Award from Prudential Financial.

Both Pasco and his sister suffer from Common variable immune deficiency, or CVID, a disorder that impairs the immune system, and have raised money for the Make a Wish Foundation.

State Rep. Sean O’Brien of Bazetta, D-63rd, and state Sen. Capri Cafaro of Liberty, D-32nd, also have recognized Pasco for his contributions.

Street sweeping will begin April 11 and last the entire week. The city asks that residents do not park on the streets during that week.

Mosquito spraying will take place from 8 to 9 p.m. May 19, June 16 and July 14 and Aug. 11. In the event of rain, the spraying will take place the following night.

The spray fog is not harmful to pets, and it is safe to keep windows open during the spraying, officials said. The city is spraying for mosquitoes four times rather than two times this summer due to the Zika virus.
