Canfield man jailed after assault at Ohio University


ATHENS, Ohio

A Canfield man, James D. Howard, 25, was charged with burglary, possessing weapons under disability by Ohio University in connection with his assault of an OU faculty member on Monday.

According to the university police department’s Facebook, Howard was enrolled as a student at OU, but withdrew from classes Monday.

After Howard left campus, police said he told a friend he was going to buy a gun. Later in the afternoon, Howard reportedly tried to buy a firearm in Logan. He was arrested by the Hocking County Sheriff’s office and found to have a shotgun in his possession for which he was buying ammunition. He was incarcerated in Southeast Ohio Regional Jail.
