US indexes edge lower; travel companies sink after attacks


NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stock indexes are mostly lower in midday trading as airlines, cruise companies and travel booking sites fall following the attacks in Belgium.

Royal Caribbean fell 4 percent Tuesday and Priceline fell 3 percent.

Energy and materials companies were also lower.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 34 points, or 0.2 percent, to 17,590 as of 11:45 a.m. Eastern time.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index lost three points, or 0.2 percent, to 2,048. The Nasdaq composite edged up three points, or 0.1 percent, to 4,812.

Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 1.89 percent.
