OVI checkpoint results in several arrests

An operating-a-vehicle-while-impaired checkpoint Saturday at 2155 Belmont Ave., resulted in several arrests, including one for carrying a concealed weapon.

There also was one arrest for operating a vehicle under the influence, two summonses for possession of drugs, and two arrests for failure to appear on warrants out of Trumbull County, according to a news release Monday from the Mahoning Valley OVI Task Force. The Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted the task force.

The law-enforcement agencies conducted the sobriety checkpoint from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

A total of 251 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and 14 were detained for further investigation. Officers on sobriety patrol conducted 42 traffic stops, according to the news release.

Additionally, the checkpoint yielded five seat-belt citations, two summonses for driving under suspension, three citations for driving without a license, one citation for driving with an expired license and one citation for following too closely.
