11 additional juveniles to be charged in East melee

YOUNGSTOWN — Juvenile prosecutors today have filed charges against 11 additional people for their roles in a series of fights March 8 at East High School.

A spokeswoman for the court said the additional charges today brings to 13 the number of juveniles charged in the series of fights that broke out and caused police to send every available unit that day to the school to break up fights.

The spokeswoman said five juveniles face misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct while seven juveniles face felony charges of felony riot and inducing panic. The remaining person faces felony charges of inducing panic, aggravated riot and assault on a police officer.

The spokeswoman said that warrants have been issued and authorities will begin serving them today. Court hearings are expected to take place next week, she said.

Of the two who were charged the day after the fight, one of the juveniles is still in juvenile detention.
