Palestinian Land Day remembrance

YOUNGSTOWN

The Arab American Cultural & Educational Center of Youngstown, 15 Belgrade Ave., will host an assembly to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Palestinian Land Day at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The assembly will consist of informative presentations by people who lived through the event and an open discussion. There also will be dance presentations from an Arab cultural dance group, Art of Freedom, from Columbus.

The Palestinian Land Day is an annual event of commemoration of the events of March 30, 1976.

In response to the Israeli government’s announcement of a plan to take possession of thousands of acres of Palestinian land for settlement purposes, Palestinians organized protests and marches throughout the country.

In the ensuing confrontations, the Israeli occupying forces killed six Palestinians, wounded more than 100, and arrested hundreds.

It is now recognized as a pivotal event in the struggle to get rid of the occupation and settlements.

Admission is free. For information, contact aaccyo.oh@sbcglobal.net.
