Free cabaret shows at the Playhouse
YOUNGSTOWN
The Youngstown Playhouse and Joshua William Green will present two free concerts at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday that showcase the graduates of the “Performance Now” workshop that was held at the theater from Feb. 13 to March 20.
Green, who created and facilitated the workshop, will host the concerts, which are also the start of the theater’s new cabaret series.
The 11 performers who will participate in the evenings of song, dance and spoken word are Benjamin Bogen, James Major Burns, Philip Dispenza, Toshi Hudson, Mazhorell Johnson, Mikayla Moore, Daniel Navabi, Ciara Rosario, Annalese Samuel, Trevail Smith and Terre Snead.
The “Performance Now” workshop focused on helping performers hone their acting, dance and singing skills as they worked on audition and performance pieces. Guest instructors included director and writer Karen Clark-Green and Youngstown State University theater professor Matthew Mazuroski.
The concerts will be in the Moyer Room. Seating is limited; call the box office at 330-788-8739 to reserve seats. Tickets are not available on the theater’s website.
YSU art exhibit
YOUNGSTOWN
The 80th annual Juried Student Art & Design Exhibition, featuring works by Youngstown State University art students, opens Friday and runs through April 8 at the McDonough Museum of Art on the YSU campus. A reception and awards ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Friday.
The exhibit was juried by Theresa Bembnister, associated curator of the Akron Art Museum.
